Your data & cookies

This page explains, in plain language, what cookies French with Ash uses and what we do with your information. We collect the minimum needed to run the site, deliver your learning, and understand whether our ads are working.

Essential cookies (always on)

These are strictly necessary for the site to function, so they don't require consent.

Account session. When you sign in to the Guides, a secure session_token cookie keeps you signed in. Sign-in can't work without it.

Your preferences & progress. Your exercise answers, flashcards, and settings are saved on your device (local storage). When you're signed in, they sync to your account so they follow you across devices.

Advertising cookies (your choice)

We run Google Ads and use Google's tag to measure whether an ad led to a booking. These cookies are off by default. We use Google Consent Mode, which denies advertising storage until you choose Accept on the cookie banner. If you decline or ignore the banner, no advertising cookies are set.

Information you give us

What we collect. If you create an account, we store your name and email address. If you sign in with Google, we also receive the basic profile Google shares (name, email, profile image). As you use the Guides, we store your learning data: your exercise answers, flashcards, and progress.

Why we collect it. We use this information to:

  • operate your account and give you access to the Guides
  • save your progress and sync it across your devices
  • personalize your learning path based on where you are in the material
  • improve the lessons, exercises, and resources we build
  • contact you about your learning when there's a reason to (a reply you asked for, a problem with your account, a material change to this notice)

That's the full list. We won't use your information for a new purpose without telling you first and, where the law requires it, asking your consent.

A note on personalization. "Personalize your learning path" means we select and sequence content based on your own progress inside the Guides. We don't build a behavioral profile of you across other sites, and we don't sell or share your learning data.

Where your data is processed

Some of our providers operate outside Québec, in the United States. We reviewed each one before using it to confirm your information is adequately protected, and each handles your data only for the function listed below.

  • Google (United States): account sign-in and, if you accept advertising cookies, ad measurement.
  • Calendly (United States): booking consultations. Loads when you open the booking widget.
  • Netlify (United States): hosts the site and processes standard server request logs.

Your rights

You have the following rights over your personal information. To exercise any of them, email the Privacy Officer (below) or use your account page. We respond within 30 days.

  • Access. Ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correction. Ask us to fix information that's inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Deletion. Delete your account and all associated progress at any time from your account page. This permanently removes your record.
  • Portability. Ask for your account and learning data in a structured, commonly used electronic format (for example, JSON or CSV), or ask us to send it to another service you name.
  • Stop dissemination / de-indexing. Ask us to stop sharing your information or to remove a link to it where the law allows.

How long we keep your information

We keep your account and learning data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your record is removed. If an account stays inactive for 24 months, we contact you and then delete it. Once we no longer need information for the purpose we collected it, we destroy or anonymize it.
